WHAT IS HORROR HIGH?

At Horror High, you won’t be reading about making a film, you won’t be observing a film shoot, you’ll be a member of the crew. You’ll work with professional filmmakers to shoot a short horror film in a professional facility, using professional gear, and learning how a professional film crew operates. By the end of the production, you’ll have the skills to work as a PA on any professional set…

HOW ARE WE DIFFERENT?

  • We provide an authentic, film production experience.

  • Our film crews are led by experienced professional filmmakers and experienced educators.

  • Youth Crew do real work under the mentorship of professional department heads.

  • Participants learn marketable skills in the Camera, Grip, Art, AD, and Audio departments.

  • Successful crew members receive Northern Film Alliance Production Assistant Certification.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

BEFORE THE SHOOT: Each year, a guest director and a crew of professionals develop a script and put the project through budgeting, location, casting, and other pre-production processes.

DURING THE SHOOT Professional filmmakers and educators work alongside a group of 10-12 teens who actively participate as crew in the Camera, Grip, AD, Art, and Audio Departments. Crew members receive one-on-one mentoring from professional department heads and film educators.

AFTER THE SHOOT: The project goes through post production: edit, sound design, scoring, special effects, and color.

SPECIAL SCREENINGS: The completed film premieres at a screening for parents, friends, and the general public, along with a behind-the-scenes documentary featuring the professionals and youth who worked on the film. Next, it begins its run of local and national film festival screenings, including a featured spot at the North Star Story Summit and the EDU Film Film Festival.
