The 2023 EDU Film Festival: A Feast for the Senses

The 2023 EDU Film Festival is a celebration of youth filmmaking, but it does not stop there… In 2023 festival goers will be treated to a wide range of creative arts made by young artists on the rise. Immerse yourself in visual art, music, and live film production on May 19, 2023, at The Main Cinema in NE Minneapolis. Here's what to expect:

Film Exhibit: Live Production Shoot – "From Script to Set"

Witness the magic of filmmaking in action as you explore the live production shoot exhibit. Go behind the scenes of a film concept, brought to life by award-winning writer Ben Percy and makeup/special effects artist Ryan Schaddelee. Experience the journey from script, to storyboard, to professional production set and experience a film shoot through the eyes of the director.

Spotlight: Creative Advocacy – Do Rad Things

Get inspired by Mark Rivard's youth program, Do Rad Things, which encourages creative exploration through skateboard art. EDU's first-ever Creative Advocacy exhibit will showcase Rivard's work and impact and will feature a student-produced documentary about his inspiring journey.

Art Exhibit: Emerging Artist – RiPTOE

Feast your eyes on the digital and mixed media art of 21-year-old Minneapolis artist RiPTOE. With a style best described as "Multi-dimensional explosions of chaos and color," his vibrant and dynamic work will be on display at the festival's art gallery exhibit.

Music Arts: Parachutes

Experience the electrifying sounds of Ryan Kemp's indie music project, Parachutes. As you arrive and settle in, enjoy his performance of songs from his new album in the theater lobby, featuring a melancholic mix of retro-drenched guitars, hazy vocals, punchy beats, and dreamy synths.

Summer Opportunities: Horror High Film Production Camp

Learn about Horror High Film Camp. A five-day immersive experience for youth to crew a professional horror shoot. This year, Justin Staggs (music video credits: Foo Fighters, NOFX, Against Me!...) will direct a horror-inspired music video for Ryan Smith  (The Melismatics, Soul Asylum) and his upcoming solo single "Who Do You Think You Are?" At Horror High Film Camp, You’ll learn the ins and outs of writing, producing, and directing a film. This experience is perfect for any teenager who not only loves watching movies but who is dying to make one.
