EDU Partners with PIM Arts High School Students to Create Micro-Film Showcase

EDU Film Festival is partnering with PIM Arts High School to create a new featured category for the 2022 film festival on May 20. The special screening, designed and curated by PIM Arts High School students, will feature Tik-Toks, Reels, Micro-films, and Mini-movies.

The partnership arose during a school visit to PIM by EDU Film Festival Director Trey Wodele. “There was a group of animation students who were asking how short a film entry could be, and that led to a discussion of social media and the popularity of Instagram Reels and Tik-Tok,” Wodele stated. “I’ve done some over-the-shoulder-viewing of my kids’ Tik-Tok feeds and there is some really talented and clever work being done in the format,” he added.

A committee of students from PIM will work with Wodele to reach-out to youth creators to curate the program, but will also be asking for Micro-Film entries along with the regular call for narrative, documentary, experimental, animation, and PSA work from Minnesota High School students and youth film program participants. Students from PIM will also be tasked with maintaining EDU’s new TIk-Tok Account: @edu_film_fest.

The committee determined that the entries should:

  • be less than 1 minute

  • be shot vertically or horizontally

  • be of any medium or genre

  • can be produced for social media, or just as a stand-alone micro-film

  • must follow all EDU Guidelines for content and format.

  • must be submitted as a .mov or .mp4 - uploaded to Sparkfest (no links accounts or posts)

To submit your micro-film (or short film) go to EDU Film Festival’s “participate” page.
